Instant Challenge: Paper Bridge
Design Brief:
The students are responsible for building a paper bridge to test their knowledge on the design process. The students have a class period of 45 minutes to build the longest bridge. They only had a piece of cardstock and 2 blocks. Nothing else. The cardstock could not touch the table, the blocks were at table height and the cardstock could be modified. The whole point of this project was to test the students knowledge of the design process. If a student could thier work would have pictures/ drawings, a list of solutions, constraints, and the problem.
Problem: Build the longest bridge across the two blocks using only a single piece of card stock.
Brainstorm ideas: Developing Solution: We decided to fold our paper in strips.
-Fold cardstock accordian style The strips seemed to reach farther then when it was
-Cut and fold paper in strips accordian style.
-Attach cardstock by folding together Prototype: (picture above)
Chosen Solution: Solutions' Problems:
-Cut and fold paper in strips -2 strips long -Kept falling in the middle
-Total Length 51cm -Won't stay connected
